If you’re working towards an NVQ in child minding, education or nursery working, then this course fulfils your obligation to receive paediatric first aid training. It complies with all NCMA guidelines and Ofsted requirements. This qualification includes topics that are regarded by the EYFS as being important to maintain good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are under the care of the trained personnel.
Considering your part time staff/ periods of absence and staff on trips for example, do you have enough staff trained in Paediatric First Aid?
Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing
normally - Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing
normally - Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is choking
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with bites, stings and minor injuries
- Be able to administer first aid to an infant and a child with a suspected fracture
- Be able to administer first aid to an infant and a child with head, neck or back injury
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with conditions affecting the
eyes, ears and nose - Understand how to administer emergency first aid to an infant and a child with an acute medical
condition or sudden illness - Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing the effects of
extreme heat and cold - Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has sustained an electric
shock
A maximum of 12 candidates per trainer/course ensures that quality is guaranteed

Assessment method
This qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and multi-choice/oral questioning.
