If you are working towards an NVQ in childminding, education, or nursery work, this course fulfils your paediatric first aid training obligation. It complies with NCMA guidelines and Ofsted requirements and covers essential EYFS topics to ensure safe, prompt, and effective treatment of injuries and ill health in infants and children.
Employers must ensure adequate Paediatric First Aid-trained staff at all times, considering part-time employees, absences, and staff on trips.
Upon successful completion, candidates will:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant or child who is choking
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant or child with external bleeding
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant or child suffering from shock
- Understand how to administer first aid for bites, stings, and minor injuries
- Be able to administer first aid for a suspected fracture
- Be able to administer first aid for head, neck, or back injuries
- Understand how to administer first aid for conditions affecting the eyes, ears, and nose
- Understand how to administer emergency first aid for an acute medical condition or sudden illness
- Understand how to administer first aid for the effects of extreme heat and cold
- Understand how to administer first aid for electric shock injuries
